Advanced Education Institute is dedicated to the fidelity of training based on Francine Shapiro, Ph.D.'s development of EMDR. Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. developed EMDR based on clinical observation, controlled research, feedback from clinicians whom she had trained and previous scholarly and scientific studies of information processing.  Northern California Training's Basic EMDR Training is based on the work of Shapiro as it is described in her writings (Shapiro, 2001).

About DaLene Forester, Ph.D.

DaLene Forester, PhD, has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Redding, California, since 1993 and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor since 2013.  She obtained her Master's in Psychology from Chico State University and her PhD in Psychology from California Southern University.  DaLene worked for 30+ years in private practice with an emphasis on the treatment of Eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and a passion for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  She worked as the Clinical Director of a non-profit counseling center and founded the Advanced Education Institute, where she provides clinical trainings to Mental Health professionals in EMDR, Clinical Supervision, the Treatment of Eating Disorders, and much more.

Dr. Forester is an AAMFT and CAMFT Approved Supervisor, an EMDR International Association EMDR Certified Therapist, Approved Consultant, and Trainer, and an iaedp Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Consultant (CEDS-C)

She is a clinical member of the American Psychological Association (APA), American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA), National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), and Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). 

Dr. Forester has presented papers at AAMFT, Western Psychological Association (WPA), has two chapters published in EMDR Solutions II, R Shaprio (ed.), W.W. Norton & Company, 2009, and one chapter published in Trauma Informed Approches to Eating Disorders, A. Seubert and P. Virdi (ed.), Springer Publishing, 2025 & 2019.
